Ruth Purdy has been running Creative Arts sessions twice a month for the Residents of Tregolls Manor for seven years. Her contribution towards person centred planning and developing confidence and comradeship has been of great value. The understanding she has of people with physical, sensory disabilities, communication difficulties and mental health issues has made a difference to many individuals.

The benefit of her service has been encouragement to explore different art forms, textures, structures and compositions. By developing good relationships with people and providing opportunities to improve well-being and to enrich their lives, and it is fun!
Our Company has very much appreciated the written feedback on each persons participation of the session and for the photographs taken and posted to us. These are used on our blog as part of our Home’s website profile.

Another aspect which is much appreciated is the accompaniment her wonderful rescue dog ‘Oakley’, who is loved by everyone!

Ruth runs a fortnightly Arts and Crafts session at my place of work in Falmouth. Ruth always provides the service users with interesting projects and provides all materials used to make them. Ruth engages with each service user and encourages them to work to their ability, she patiently shows them how to complete each stage of the project. Ruth praises them which encourages them to work well. The service users really enjoy the sessions and look forward to Ruth coming. I think the sessions are very beneficial to all who attend. One service users who had suffered a stroke in earlier life will try her best to complete any task, she recently finished a task which required sewing, it was lovely to see the concentration while she was sewing. She was extremely pleased with her results. Ruth makes her sessions relevant to the time of year example Easter, Harvest and Christmas. Service users are encouraged to communicate and put forward all ideas they have. Everyone enjoys the afternoon.

Ruth has been coming to us for several years; she is patient and creative, coming up with new ideas every week. The sessions are worked through at a speed and in a way that is accessible and suitable for everyone, adapting where necessary.
Ruth is thoughtful, considerate and she communicates fantastically, encouraging and supporting when needed; we all – staff and residents look forward to the sessions. We have brilliant, colourful artwork decorating the home, the artwork is engaging, interesting and creative…the guys love it!

It is a pleasure having Ruth come to us.

I am a volunteer at a local day centre. I have seen this young lady at work for some time now. She is talented, passionate about her work and very kind and thoughtful. It’s a pleasure to watch her coax the ladies and gentlemen to their full potential. She is full of praise for all of them. I also love the way she guides them when they sometimes get a little shy or unsure about what they’re doing. They have done some amazing artwork which has been used in local shop windows and also throughout the building which houses the day centre. She comes up with the most brilliant ideas for different times and seasons of the year. They made scarecrows which reside on the hedges which enclose the garden and they really cheer everyone up. She is a lot of fun, very upbeat and wonderful with people of all abilities and they all eagerly look forward to craft days and also seeing her. We all think the world of her.

Her contribution towards person centred planning and developing confidence and comradeship has been of great value. The understanding she has of people with physical, sensory disabilities, communication difficulties and mental health issues has made a difference to many individuals.
