Make it Better (mitber) CIC was set up in 2017 to support communities to live well through the arts. We worked with Smartline to develop an 8-week creative and collaborative project with a group of people made up from the local community.
‘Smartline is a groundbreaking research project looking at how technology can help us live healthier and happier lives. We are a partnership project led by the University of Exeter with Coastline Housing Ltd, Cornwall Council and Volunteer Cornwall. We are funded by the European Union Regional Development Fund and the South West Academic Health Science Network.’
The theme of our project is the 5 ways to well-being: learning, giving, being active, observing and connecting. Each week we went out on location to take a digital photographic challenge with our phones. Over the 8-week project, 16 people attended and we received some great feedback:
“The course has given me the ability to take more interesting photographs; I hope to carry on with this.”
“It has been good meeting the group, who have been helpful, supportive and patient. I also enjoy passing on new skills to other members.”
“I have found new ways of expressing myself through photography.”
“Looking at taking photos with a mobile phone in a different way and meeting great people has made me not shy anymore. I have come out of my shyness and feel better for it.”
“Very inspiring, this course has been so inspiring and the exhibition is great.”
