Make it Better (mitber) CIC supports communities to live well through the arts. We collect personal information so we can collaborate with you to design person centred projects. Mitber sees protecting your private information as an essential part of helping people to live well.

During our projects we may collect the contact information you give us, this might include-

  • your name
  • address
  • postcode
  • contact details.

We may also ask you questions about being a participant-

  • how you are feeling at the start of the project, while participating and at the end of a project
  • what are your views on the project?

We may also ask questions about how you see yourself-

  • age
  • gender
  • disability
  • gender reassignment,
  • marriage,
  • civil partnership,
  • pregnancy
  • maternity
  • race
  • religion or belief

We look at this information to-

  • So, we can contact you.
  • See how we can improve our service.

We also collect photographs and video of our projects-

  • We use this to demonstrate that are projects are creative, fun and help people live well; so, more communities will get involved.

If you need help to answer these questions; we may get information from other people who know you like an advocate.

You don’t have to answer questions or be in photographs and videos.

We share some of this information to other people because we need-

  • To prove to our funders that we ran our project.
  • To prove that we are working with the people we said we would.
  • To show other communities and the people we work with that we are helping people live well.
  • To show wider audiences what we do and be able to do more of it.

We share this information by-

  • Writing and sharing reports which may include the characteristics of the group.
  • Sharing stories, photographs and video via our website or on social media
  • Sharing information with our funders electronically or by post

When we ask you for personal information, we will ask your permission to share it.

  • We will not If share your personal information without your permission.
  • If you don’t want us to use pictures of you that’s fine as well

The Data Protection Act 1998

Controls how organisations, businesses or the government use your personal information-

  • fairly and lawfully
  • limited, specifically stated purposes.
  • adequate, relevant and not excessive
  • accurate
  • kept for no longer than is absolutely necessary.
  • handled according to people’s data protection rights.
  • kept safe and secure.
  • not transferred outside the European Economic Area without adequate protection

There is stronger legal protection for more sensitive information, such as personal characteristics.

General Data Protection Regulation 2016

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which is designed to enable individuals to better control their personal data. It is hoped that these modernised and unified rules will allow businesses to make the most of the opportunities of the Digital Single Market by reducing regulation and benefiting from reinforced consumer trust.

The Data Protection Directive: The police and criminal justice sectors will ensure that the data of victims, witnesses, and suspects of crimes, are duly protected in the context of a criminal investigation or a law enforcement action. At the same time more harmonised laws will also facilitate cross-border cooperation of police or prosecutors to combat crime and terrorism more effectively across Europe.
